Connectors

Extra tools, curated by the platform, that a persona can use in conversation.

What a connector is

Xertron has a built-in set of tools: it reads channels, opens files, searches the web. A connector adds tools beyond that set, reaching services outside Discord. The catalogue covers areas like productivity, communication, data and search, developer tools and gaming.

Connectors attach to a persona, not to the server

There is no server-wide connector switch. A persona carries its own connectors and uses all of them automatically, so which tools exist in a conversation depends on which persona is answering there.

Browsing the catalogue

Run /connectors in Discord. It opens a private panel grouped into categories: pick a category, then a connector, to see the tools it currently offers.

This is not an admin command. Any member can browse the catalogue and manage the connectors on a persona they wrote.

The persona hub has the same catalogue in a browser, where each connector gets a page listing its tools, and the persona editor has a connector picker built in so you can choose them while writing rather than as a separate step. Either route writes the same thing.

The lock marker

A connector marked with a lock already has its credentials configured by the platform operator, so there is nothing for you to set up. Others may need configuration before their tools do anything useful.

Applying one

From a connector's page, apply it to a persona. What you can apply it to depends on who you are.

  • A persona you wrote. Any member can do this, for any persona they are the author of.
  • The server's default persona. Admins only. The dashboard's Bot profile screen offers the same catalogue and the same cap from a browser.

There is no separate enable step. A persona uses every connector applied to it whenever it is the one answering.

Which ones are active

Because connectors belong to personas, the answer changes with the conversation.

  • In a regular channel, the server's default persona answers, so its connectors are the ones in play.
  • In a thread, the persona assigned to that thread answers, so its connectors apply instead.

A member wanting a particular tool in a particular conversation therefore needs the right persona running, not just the right connector saved. See Personas.

Plan and downgrades

Connectors need the server that owns the persona to be on Premium.

A persona that already has connectors keeps them if its server drops to the free plan. You just cannot add more until it is back on Premium. Nothing is silently detached, so an upgrade later picks up exactly where it left off.

If your server does not need them

Connectors are optional. A server that does not integrate with anything outside Discord can ignore /connectors entirely, and nothing else behaves differently.
